What's the big deal about vehicular intercoms?

Actually, quite a lot if you have become accustomed to hearing, or have any interest in complying with NFPA and OSHA requirements.  When you consider the fact that you can purchase safety and compliance with five or ten cent dollars (courtesy of FEMA), we honestly don't see why there is any reason that every fire and rescue vehicle in the USA should not have a vehicle intercom!

From a practical viewpoint, a vehicle intercom lets the driver talk on the radio and actually hear what is being said (or the passenger or everyone in the vehicle).  Talking to each other is a lot easier as well but the main consideration from a personal point of view is HEARING PROTECTION!  Show me a professional firefighter over the age of forty that has been making calls without hearing protection, and I'll show you someone with hearing loss, ringing in the ears or both!

From a regulatory viewpoint, NFPA compliance provides the foundation for litigation avoidance.  If you are not NFPA compliant and you a lawsuit is filed against your department for non-compliance, YOU LOSE!  As far as OSHA is concerned, this agency has the power and authority to impose significant fines and in general, make your life miserable.  The cost of a vehicle intercom is insignificant compared to the alternatives for non-compliance.

So what does a good vehicle intercom cost?  Very little if you work with us.
